Virtual Production: Stabilizing an Industry
Information
The easy problem - which has colloquially become named "virtual production" (although it is an overgeneralization) is represented as casting light from a virtual world through display technology on to physical objects to mimic the real world. This, as difficult as it sounds, is actually the easiest of the problems to solve as it pertains. We need to come together to solve the much harder issues, only a fraction of which are technical. On the non-technical front, these include standardization, education and scaling to a global remote workforce. On the technical side, we need to solve issues related to color science, inter-volume reflections and non-diffuse lighting, latency reduction. We are going to briefly cover these topics today as a broad overview of the next two to three years, and what it will take to make "virtual production" a tool that is more accessible, more universal and more flexible. Our ultimate goal should be to empower creative vision, storytelling and new entertainment mediums.
